Human Rights in Central Asia—Between Internationalization and Nation-Building

Abstract Human rights education and knowledge dissemination in Central Asia have been developing since the collapse of Soviet Union. The countries region a mixture democratic, authoritarian, autocratic systems, which, for human defenders particular, can pose challenges. Over course last three decades, their opportunities either restricted or expanded. Against this background, 2021, Leibniz Institute East Southeast European Studies (IOS) Regensburg, Germany, conducted project collaboration with OSCE Academy Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, which included one-week workshop entitled “Human Rights Asia—Between Internationalization Nation-Building.” Both civil society activists young professionals attended workshop, where they reported on experiences education, empowerment, dissemination, state-building Asia. There are key questions to be addressed context: What outcomes discussions concerning instruments, legislation related organizations (CSOs), role societies, sustainability CSO projects, as well how impact is measured? Further, what observations made lessons learned from specifically regard research, teaching, material, social media usage? And, finally, recommendations national, international, state, non-state actors involved Asia?
